Busy summer ahead

Just to catch everyone up: we have had a few meetings here and there to discuss our happenings for the summer and, as it turns out, we will begin with a Happening series!

What’s a Happening? It is an avant-garde theatrical performance / performance art medium that has a high level of improvisation (but not comedic). The idea is that the show will be performed differently every night.  We have our series already up and starting rehearsals soon.

Additionally, Premature Punchline will have some appearances in the Corpus comedy scene as well, so be on the lookout for that. In addition, we will be entering the Corpus Christi 7-Day Film Festival again, starting in July.

Also, our season is just about solidified so be on the lookout for that post.  Next up on the ZU calendar will be a Happening and a Textual Overture.

“Eighty-Six Thousand Four Hundred Seconds” Now Online

What do you do with your final twenty-four hours of life? One young man figures it out with the help of his friends in our short film, Eighty-Six Thousand Four Hundred Seconds, which is now viewable on YouTube and here at Zero Untitled!

An eight-minute version of the film was originally created as part of the Corpus Christi 7-Day Film Project, where it received nominations for Best Supporting Actor (Aaron Salinas), Best Supporting Actress (Megan Saenz), Best Ensemble Cast, First-Time Filmmaker, and won the award for Best Original Song (Caleb Bonitz).

This Week At ZU…

Plenty in store: First up is Textual Overture on Thursday night at the Kingsville Visitors Center on Corral Street.  For those unfamiliar, Textual Overture is an open-mic variety show of poetry, plays, live music, and other oddities.  This event FREE to the public.  The show begins at 7:00 on the 19th, so bring your work or instruments!

Keeping with the messy “ransom note” theme of previous Textual Overture flyers, here is the latest flyer:

And also: For those who could not make it to Corpus Christi for the CC 7-Day Film Festival screening of “Eighty-Six Thousand Four Hundred Seconds“, you will get a chance to see the screening of the multi-nominated and award-winning film, now is your chance.  On Friday, September 20th at 8:00pm, the film will be screened at the Blue Room in Fore Hall along with a “Live Commentary” with the cast and crew.  Click “Read More” to see the latest trailer after the break.  Read more

CC7D B.T.S. Here’s a teaser pic from our forthcoming Corpus Christi 7-Day Film Festival project, written and directed by Heraclio Gonzalez, Jr.

Pictured from left to right are: Aaron Salinas, Caleb Bonitz, Megan Saenz, Heraclio Gonzalez Jr, Danny Cantu, and Julio Martinez.

Other cast and crew for this project will be Leah Luna, Daron Briscoe, Luis Zaragosa, Michael Verderber, Stacey Saenz, and others. Keep here for more info!

Post-“Glass” and the future

Now that “A Glass Veil” has closed, what becomes of ZU’s project line up?  Well, plenty actually!  ZU plans to take a week-long break from rehearsals, pre-pro, and any other related work to give the cast and crew a chance to prioritize with other endeavors.

Upon our return, we have a huge summer ahead of us.  Two huge projects are being juggled at once: Shakespeare on Air and Annabelle’s Day OutSoA will be the radio-play recordings of William Shakespeare’s Othello and The Merchant of Venice.  The project is under the direction of C.J. Lillie (The Rorshach Test, Only Slightly Mad, etc) with assistance from Michael Verderber.  The project’s intention is to create downloadable recordings of the plays for educational purposes.  It should take roughly 1 1/2 months to rehearse and record each play.

Annabelle’s Day Out is a filmed spin off of the very successful Cooookie! play performed at the end of 2012.  An episodic web series, the series will follow the misadventures of Annabelle, the rambunctiously idiotic child fixated on cookies and giving trouble to the baby sitter(s).  At press, four brand new episodes have been ordered, two have already been written, and the play Cooookie! will be broken up into three episodes for a total of seven, released monthly starting in late summer.

Inevitably, Premature Punchline will be having sporadically scheduled shows in Kingsville and Corpus Christi as well.

Until then, we rest!

Fish and Giggles

Last night’s production of Premature Punchline’s “Fish and Giggles” (and our 63rd production) went off without a hitch. Well, maybe a few comic hitches.  New to the cast and crew of PrePunch was Rolando Rios, who previously appeared in “Into Hell”, and Rebekah Ramos, who previously appeared in “Relapse in Wonderland”.  Making his acting debut for PrePunch was writer Julio Martinez who played the role of Professor Caffeine in the skit “True College Learning”.

From left to right: Aaron Salinas, Rolando Rios, Joshua Cavazos, Andrew Frimpong (on bottom), and Nicholas Zaragosa during the game “Penalty Hat”.

Next up on the ZU schedule is the editing for the film “Unheard”, which was filmed in the summer in Austin, TX.  And in addition to that, the next mainstage production “Nightmare of Oz”.  Look for those soon.

Aug-Sept events for ZU

Our next film, “Unheard”, is still being edited, with a few scenes being filmed here and there.  We anticipate a release in a few months.  However, the next project coming up is “Fish and Giggles” – a Premature Punchline show much like last year’s “Welcome Freshmen”.

The college-themed show will premiere Friday, September 7th @ 7:00 pm in the Blue Room.  This will be a FREE EVENT; rarely does PrePunch do a free show – so this is NOT to be missed.

Scouting for “Unheard”

Zero Untitled’s collaborative film, “Unheard” is currently in pre-production. The cast/crew were in Austin this weekend for the PrePunch show and to scout for possible locales.  Here is a pic of one of the potential film spots.  More on this project later this month!

The film chronicles the life of two homeless people dealing with the daily trials and tribulations  of their struggle.
